New York Mets

The New York Mets have been on quite a run lately and now find themselves in firm control of the National League East. The team has an enviable pitching staff to build upon and the offense has come around with the addition of Yoenis Cespedes and the return of David Wright.

That isn’t to say that New York is flawless and could use some help down the stretch either. In particular, the bullpen has been somewhat of a conundrum all season and there will undoubtedly be some fresh arms coming up from the minors to help alleviate some of that stress. With the addition of Addison Reed, the Mets may not need those arms to take on any sort of high leverage roles, but they’ll be key in keeping guys fresh for the postseason.

Left-hander Dario Alvarez and righty Akeel Morris would almost be a lock to see New York in September. Both are already on the 40-man roster and both have been solid in the minor leagues this season, with Alavarez posting a 3.02 ERA and a 13.38 K/9 ratio in 46 relief appearances, whereas Morris has a 2.63 ERA and a strike-out per inning at Double-A Binghampton this season.

The Mets can also get some help for the rotation, and could possibly use a six-man rotation for the final month in order to rest some arms. Top prospect Steven Matz is on a rehab assignment with Double-A now and could rejoin the team when rosters expand, allowing the rookies to build upon the 2-0, 1.32 ERA, 9.2 K/9 start he had after his first two appearances. Having that kind of addition could be big for a Mets team looking to make a run in the playoffs.
