Los Angeles Angels

As things currently stand, the Los Angeles Angels currently find themselves on the outside looking in for the postseason. Granted, as of August 27th, that was only by a half game behind the Minnesota Twins for the American League’s final Wild Card spot, but the Angels have done themselves no favors either, dropping to six games behind the Houston Astros in the division by going 10-15 thus through their first 25 games in August. That slide has left Los Angeles with a 3.1% playoff probability in the AL West and just 21% in the Wild Card.

Still there is a chance and the Angels will approach September as though they were looking to make the playoffs. Like most teams, they’ll look to bring up some veteran pieces. However for Los Angeles, they’re hoping some of these reinforcements will indeed be upgrades over some current pieces.

The Angels have a number of veterans already on the 40-man roster who could potentially help down the stretch. Chief among them are Nick Tropeano and Taylor Featherston. Tropeano could use some more molding the minors before he becomes a piece the Angels can rely on, but could benefit as a long-man during the stretch run. Meanwhile, Featherston would give Los Angeles some much needed infield depth at second and third base.

The Angels certainly could take a look at some prospects down the stretch as well, but they’d have to play some roster games to make that happen. Matt Joyce, Alfredo Marte, Rucinski could be potential victims if roster space is needed, especially if the Angels want to call-up Wesley Wright as another lefty relief arm. Eduard Santos and Greg Mahle also could see call-ups for bullpen depth, but generally speaking, the prospect cupboard is relatively bare in terms of players that could help down the stretch.
