Detroit Tigers

After starting the season as a perennial favorite and getting off to a quick start, the Detroit Tigers stumbled hard and were forced to sell at the trade deadline, promptly parting with their General Manager shortly thereafter.

However, things aren’t necessarily in dire straits in Detroit either. The Tigers still have a solid core and they’ll use September to evaluate what pieces fit into their 2016 plan. That includes pitchers Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd, both of whom were acquired in the David Price deal and have already seen time in the Major League rotation. That said, Norris is currently on the DL with an oblique strain and could miss the rest of the season.

That could open a spot for Michael Fullmer. Acquired from Mets in the deal that sent Yoenis Cespedes to New York, Fullmer has gone 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA and a 9.4 K/9 mark since joining the organization. The Tigers could add him by moving Norris to the 60-day DL, allowing them to get a good a look at the top three pitchers they added at the deadline.

Another non-roster player that could garner some fan support is outfielder Mike Hessman. Hessman recently became minor league baseball’s all-time home run leader, but the 37-year-old hasn’t sniffed the Majors since 2010. This could be his last shot to realize his dream and the Tigers really have nothing to lose by giving him a shot.

Outside of that pair, the remaining call-ups will likely come from the 40-man roster. Outfielders Steven Moya, Daniel Fields, and Wynton Bernard could all get a nod, as could infielders Dixon Machado and Jefry Marte, and catcher Bryan Holaday. The bullpen will also get some reinforcements, with Josh Zeid, Ian Krol, Jose Valdez, and Kyle Ryan likely to pick up a golden ticket.
