Titans’ Marcus Mariota finds Harry Douglas for 58-yard TD (Video)
Standing tall in the pocket, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota found wide receiver Harry Douglas for a 58-yard touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
The fourth NFL preseason game every year means jack squat and teams can’t wait to get it over with. Star players hang out in team apparel instead of uniforms and general managers and coaches are focused on roster cuts.
However, it is also a good time to see progression out of the young players before the regular season begins. More importantly, in the case of the Tennessee Titans, it’s a good chance to continue to further develop Marcus Mariota and get him some reps as their starting quarterback before the team’s Week 1 game.
Well, he’s showing maturity in the pocket against the Minnesota Vikings. Perhaps his best play thus far, came on a short strike to Harry Douglas, who took the ball 58 yards to the house for a touchdown.
What’s so impressive about this play is that Mariota didn’t target his first read. He trusted his offensive line, was aware of the pressure coming from the Vikings and found the right pass to Harry Douglas. The points might not count because it’s preseason, but that’s exactly the type of play the Titans want to see from their young quarterback.
The Titans are placing all their eggs in the basket of Marcus Mariota, and thus far the young quarterback is showing the smarts and tangibles that it takes to be a quarterback in the National Football League.
