Baylor will be without one of their key defensive players for their season opener in Shawn Oakman.

Baylor football has had a rough past couple of weeks. They’ve been in the headlines recently due to a sexual assault case involving former defensive end Sam Ukwuachu. He was found guilty of the act but the school never took action against him. This was Ukwuachu’s latest case of assaulting a woman, as he got in trouble while at Boise State prior.

Well, Baylor has found a way to step into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons yet again. According to Bleacher Report, the school has suspended All-American DE Shawn Oakman for the season opener against SMU.

There’s no word on what the suspension is for but the Bears will be without Oakman for their first game of the season this weekend. It’s also unknown how long it is for.

Oakman was a standout player for Baylor last season, totaling 51 tackles, 19.5 for a loss and 11 sacks so his presence will be missed.

You may also remember Oakman for being involved in a popular meme earlier this year. He was sent to mid-field for a coin toss in a game against Michigan State and looked quite intimidating.

Unfortunately for Baylor, they may not be able to have this intimidating 6’9”, 275 pound defensive end on the field for the foreseeable future. Hopefully the reason for this suspension won’t damage his status for the entirety of the season.
