The Georgia Bulldogs opened their 2015 season in dominating fashion, defeating the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 51-14, as the game was called in the fourth quarter.

The Georgia Bulldogs got their 2015 season started on a high note this Saturday with a 51-14 blowout victory over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in front of a home crowd at Sanford Stadium. Georgia started running away early, jumping out to a 35-0 lead.

Louisiana-Monroe appeared to be picking up momentum after wide receiver Rashon Ceasar hauled in a pair of unanswered touchdowns catches, but a third quarter lightning delay ended any progress from the Warhawks. Immediately after play resumed, the Bulldogs blocked a Louisiana-Monroe punt for a safety. Three plays later, Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert delivered a perfect strike to Malcolm Mitchell for a 28-yard touchdown pass.

Lambert, a graduate transfer from Virginia, was impressive in his debut with the Bulldogs, recording 141 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia’s dynamic running back duo of Nick Chubb and Keith Marshall combined for a total of 193 rushing yards and four touchdowns. For Louisiana-Monroe, Rashon Ceasar was the star of the game, recording 13 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

With no benefit in playing out the remainder of the game, the two teams decided to call the game with 9:45 left in the fourth quarter in order to avoid any serious injuries to their players.

Three Stars

1. Nick Chubb, Georgia RB – 120 rushing yards, two touchdowns, 7.5 yards per carry

2. Rashon Ceasar, Louisiana-Monroe WR – 13 receptions, 153 yards, two touchdowns

3. Greyson Lambert, Georgia QB – 8-for-12, 141 passing yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions

Odds

Georgia narrowly covered the 36 point spread, while the over of 54 points was covered by the end of the third quarter.

Next Week

Georgia begins its SEC schedule next week, as the Bulldogs head to Nashville, Tennessee for a matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores. They will need to improve their pass defense after giving up 206 yards to redshirt freshman quarterback Garrett Smith this week. Fortunately for Georgia, Vanderbilt’s passing attack was atrocious during a season-opening loss to Western Kentucky this week.

Louisiana-Monroe looks to rebound next Saturday in their home opener against the Nicholls State Colonels. This should not be too difficult of a task for the Warhawks, considering that Nicholls State is an FCS team that went 0-12 last season.
