After hurting his knee in the Arizona Wildcats‘ opener against UTSA, linebacker Scooby Wright has had a procedure to repair his lateral meniscus.
After many people feared the worst that Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright might be gone for the year after suffering a scary knee injury against UTSA on Thursday, it sounds like the linebacker’s knee turned out better than previously thought.
Wright underwent a procedure to repair his lateral meniscus Saturday, according to SI.com, and if all goes well, he should be back by the time PAC-12 Conference play begins to help his Wildcats defend their PAC-12 South title. He initially suffered the injury in the first half of Thursday’s night game.
Wright came into the season as a preseason All-American for the Wildcats, and is one of the top linebackers in the country. He’s already a projected top draft pick for next year’s NFL Draft, and losing him would have been a crippling blow to the Arizona Wildcats defense, who struggled without him in the game on Thursday.
Against UTSA, the Wildcats defense gave up almost 600 yards of offense to a team they were favored by more than 30 points against.
There’s not an official timetable for the return of Wright, but Arizona fans and football fans can breathe easy knowing that he will be back soon and on the field for the Wildcats. They face their first PAC-12 test, when the UCLA Bruins come to town on September 26.
