A look at how you can watch Stanford take on Northwestern Saturday

No. 21 Stanford is taking on Northwestern on Saturday in their first game since September 1994 when the teams finished in a 41-41 tie. (That same year All-4-One’s “I Swear” was a top hit. Yeah, 1994 was a long time ago.)

The Stanford Cardinal finished the 2014 season with a record of 8-5. Their losses to USC, Notre Dame, and Utah were by three points, frustrating a team that hasn’t seen more than nine victories since 2009. Senior quarterback Kevin Hogan will lead an experienced offense that retained most of its starters from last season. A weak point for the Cardinal, however, is its defense, which only sees four of its 2014 starters returning this season. Schematically, the Cardinal defense should be prepared to face off against Northwestern, whose offense employs schemes similar to several teams in the PAC-12.

Northwestern Wildcats finished 2014 with a record of 5-7. The team hopes that a strong recruiting year will help them rebound from a very disappointing season marked by injuries, several devastating losses, and no bowl appearance. Northwestern has several strong points including their secondary, about which Stanford quarterback Hogan said, “They really work well together. Whether it’s the safeties coming up in the run game and the corners replacing over the top, or the corners trusting their technique on the outside and sticking true to the scheme, they do a good job.”
