Hugh Jackman Would ‘Seriously Consider’ Playing James Bond

Daniel Craig seems to have just one more Bond film left in him, which means the search for the next 007 is already underway.

As Bond fans around the world await the release of Spectre in November, attention is beginning to switch to who will succeed Daniel Craig in the next era of Bond films. The actor has recently expressed a desire to move away from the character — one he has deemed sexist and seems disinterested in continuing to play.

That doesn’t mean Craig is bailing on the role, as he is contracted for one more film. But it’s a long shot to think that he’ll be around for Bond 26 and he might not even agree to do the followup to Spectre if he doesn’t feel fit to play the role. That means the search for the next Bond is underway, and Hugh Jackman’s name is coming up once again.

In a recent interview, Jackman noted that he’d ‘seriously consider’ playing Bond if offered the part after passing on the role the first time around back in 2005.

Jackman was up for the role before Casino Royale and was apparently offered the role while filming X2 but passed on being the actor to succeed Pierce Brosnan as 007. The actor says that at the time he just didn’t feel like the role was right for him, but it was hard to turn down.

His circling back to basically begging for the job shows that there’s some serious regret about passing on the role, but it’s not as though passing on Bond in 2005 was something that ruined his career. Jackman has made a living off playing the comic book character Wolverine and has done everything from host the Oscars to almost win one.

Playing Bond is something that is clearly a blessing and a curse, but that hasn’t stopped actors like Jackman from wanting to sign up more than once for the role.
