Reggie Wayne thought playing for Patriots was ‘not fun’

Wide receiver Reggie Wayne thought playing for the New England Patriots wasn’t a whole lof of fun.

The Indianapolis Colts and Reggie Wayne parted ways and it looked like the wide receiver was going to be the latest veteran castoff to find the fountain of youth in New England with the Patriots. That storyline won’t come to fruition after the Patriots and Wayne parted ways on Saturday ahead of the deadline for cuts to trim rosters to 53 players.

There were reports that Wayne asked for his release from the Patriots, not necessarily that the Patriots cut the player on their own.

Why would a veteran player want a Super Bowl defending team with a future Hall of Fame quarterback to cut him?

According to one report from Scott Zolak, it is because Wayne thought the “work environment was too tough” and that playing for the Patriots overall was “not fun.”

Sure playing football is supposed to be fun and all, but at a certain point as a professional can’t you set aside those desires. Perhaps if you’re trying to chase a Super Bowl in the twilight years of your career?

Perhaps Wayne is content with his lone Super Bowl ring and pursuing another isn’t high on his priority list. But he has to have seen head coach Bill Belichick’s press conferences or interacted with him to some degree, he had to know he doesn’t necessarily exude happiness and fun.
