Carl Edwards wins Southern 500: Complete starting grid

Carl Edwards survived a caution-filled night to win the Southern 500.

The longest race of the season went almost five hours as a record 18 cautions created quite the havoc at the Southern 500 at Darlington. At the end of the night, it was Carl Edwards who did a back flip off the side of his car and celebrated in victory lane.

For most of the night, it looked like it was going to be Brad Keselowski, the pole sitter, enjoying those honors. However, a late caution on the track would bring an end to his chances as Edwards had a great pit stop and used that to his advantage to get to the front of the track.

No one could catch Edwards as he pulled away and swept through the corners of Darlington. Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Keselowski all gave chase, but they couldn’t catch the No. 19 as Darlington became “Carlington.”

For the first time in a decade, NASCAR returned on Labor Day to Darlington, and it was a huge success as it felt like old school racing with the obstacles and challenges that took place on the track.

With Carl Edwards big win and second of the year, here is the complete finishing order at Darlington.
