Two high school players in Texas targeted and intentionally took out an official and Mike Pereira says suspending them isn’t enough

Two high school football players at Jon Jay High School, located just less than 100 miles away from San Antonio, TX, were involved in one of the most despicable acts we’ve ever seen. After a series of bad calls, the two defensive backs took out the back judge deliberately, trying to harm him physically.

The two players have rightfully been suspended already and there is an ongoing investigation regarding the incident. However, FOX officiating expert and analyst Mike Pereira thinks that there should be much heavier punishment for the two players. In fact, he’s calling for legal action against the two:

Because of the premeditated nature of the act against the high school official, Pereira is saying that the players should face legal consequences. Furthermore, the team’s season should be cancelled. Considering the chance that these two players could have been operating under orders from their coach, the latter punishment seems more soon to come than any legal action.

This is clearly still developing, but there are undoubtedly repercussions beyond just suspensions coming. Whether those consequences are as dire as legal action, as Pereira is calling for, remains to be seen.
