Throughout his career, the only time Peyton Manning would wear a glove was during really cold weather, and that was only after his neck surgeries. Now, the 39-year-old is toggling back and forth with regard to the glove, even in warm weather. Despite not wearing a glove on his throwing hand throughout the preseason, Manning wore a glove during Monday’s practice, according to Nicki jhabvaia of the Denver Post.

Manning has openly talked about his struggles to grip the football after having four neck surgeries, which has left him with numbness in his fingertips. While Manning has continued to insist this has been a problem since getting the surgeries in 2011, it seems odd that the story is just coming out now.

Throughout the preseason, Manning has not shown a ton of arm strength, and the Denver Broncos‘ offense has struggled. Early on, the Broncos might be looking at having to rely on their defense, which could be one of the best in the league. Manning talked about the use of the glove a few weeks ago, per the Denver Post.

"“I’ve mentioned it before, due to my injury, my hand has some issues. I’ve been forced to wear a glove and certainly in certain elements, have to wear a glove. I practiced with it in the spring. I haven’t worn it as much during training camp. I don’t really have a real set plan one way or the other. I feel pretty comfortable with both. I think that’s the main idea. Obviously, for 14 years, I never wore a glove in any type of elements—rain or cold. Due to my injury, due to the nerves, I’ve been kind of forced to wear it. That’s been that whole reasoning for it.”"

We will get a terrific idea of where Manning’s arm strength is come Sept. 13 when the Broncos host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 of the regular season.
