Looking at five reasons why the Baltimore Orioles could be sleepers in the Wild Card race.

All hope might seem lost right now for the Baltimore Orioles as they’re just 3-15 since August 20 and it feels like wins are at a premium lately. However, there’s still hope for the Orioles in the Wild Card race as 25 games remain in the regular season.

When MLB added another Wild Card spot two years ago, people were knocking the idea because it gave too many mediocre teams hope to make the final playoff field. Now people seem to be praising the idea after watching the Kansas City Royals win the AL Wild Card game and then go on to make a World Series run.

The Orioles may be 7 games out of the final Wild Card position, but there are still a number of series left and this team is just too talented to not make the playoffs without a fight.

Before this immense dry spell, Baltimore was 61-56 and looking like a lock to make the American League postseason field. During their pair of  six-game skids to close out August, the Orioles have struggled to really put any kind of win streak together and the offense looks complacent.

That will all need to change if they want a chance to go back to the playoffs for a second straight season and improve on what they did a year ago — losing in the American League Championship series to the Royals.

Don’t worry, Orioles fans, there’s still time to make up those 7 games and make a serious run at the playoffs. Here are five reasons why they’re a sleeper in the Wild Card race.
