As the New Orleans Saints get ready for their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, the team continues to work out players as they search for upgrades and depth to the roster.

On Tuesday, the team reportedly worked out wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who was just recently released by the Tennessee Titans, after spending the preseason with them.

The Saints’ current wide receiver corps includes the aging Marques Colston, the young and talented Brandin Cooks, Brandon Coleman and Willie Snead IV. While the Saints have owned one of the best passing attack in the NFL for years, the team is in search of more weapons to add to the roster for quarterback Drew Brees.

Nicks might be that option in New Orleans if he can be a productive receiver. He had an impressive start to his career with the New York Giants, where he had two 1,000 yard seasons, including being a part of the 2011 team that won the Super Bowl.

However, Nicks just wasn’t as productive in his final two years with the Giants. Then, last season with the Indianapolis Colts, Nicks played in all 16 games but caught just 38 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns.

Whether or not New Orleans signs him is one thing, but it is clear that Nicks has seen a sharp decline in production despite being out on the field every week. Perhaps with a quarterback like Drew Brees he might see an increase in production, though he just played with Andrew Luck and still struggled to regain his form.

Adding depth and experience to a locker room is never a bad thing, but at this point is Nicks better than what the Saints have?
