Fresno State Bulldogs vs. No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels

Saturday afternoon, the Fresno State Bulldogs head to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a big challenge as they take on the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels. Last week the Rebels absolutely dismantled the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in their home opener by a score of 76-3. This week they face better competition in Fresno State, who is coming off an opening win of their own, but they are still a heavy favorite at home to pull off a win by a large margin of victory.

Keys to Victory

After blowing out Tennessee-Martin by 73 points, the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels can’t let their guard down against Fresno State. Fresno State likes to get up for these types of games against big opponents and on Saturday, the Bulldogs will do their best to spread things out offensively.

While Ole Miss likes all of their quarterbacks, this will be another game for the team to see what they have in Chad Kelly, Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade. Before SEC play begins, this should be another great week for the quarterbacks to get reps if they can handle the Bulldogs early.

After a gruesome injury last week, Laquon Treadwell returned and was a bit rusty at time as he dropped a few passes. He hill however become a big focal point of the offense as the season goes on.

For Fresno State, a win in this game on the road at an SEC school, it’s all hands on deck. They have two new starters on the offensive line and the run game is beginning to click. To have a chance in a hostile environment, they’re going to have to work the clock and establish a run game. Otherwise it’s going to be a long week for the Bulldogs, who struggled offensively in the first half last week against Abilene Christian.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Ole Miss -29.5

Prediction

Fresno State is still struggling to find some offensive consistency. That’s going to hurt them early and often as Ole Miss will shut down them right away. The Rebels will jump on the Bulldogs early and often and the route will be on in Oxford.

Laquon Treadwell will continue to improve as he continues to recover. He will make big plays in front of the fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and Jaylen Walton will put the ball on the ground for several scores. Ryan Buchanan will continue to impress as the Rebels search for their quarterback.

By halftime, the Rebels will be up by four scores and the backups will be getting time toward the end of the third quarter. Fresno State won’t be able to manage any touchdowns on the road as their new interior line gets manhandled by an SEC defense.

Luckily for Fresno State, it won’t be a shutout and they will get a field goal out of it. Unfortunately, that’s all it will be and the plane ride back to Fresno will be a long one as they try to figure out how to improve offensively going forward.

Final Score: No. 17 Ole Miss 45, Fresno State 3
