Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler used a Shooter McGavin quote from Happy Gilmore.

Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler had some fun in a post-game interview after playing the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.

“This is always a very difficult place to play. It was a hard-fought draw,” Besler said when asked about the match, via the Timber’s website. “I tell you the real winner today is the city of Portland. Every time we come here it gets harder to leave. I bet you guys put something in the water.”

In case the quote is over your head, here is the character Shooter McGavin in the movie Happy Gilmore delivering the same line.

This is some genius level hilarity, subtly slipping in a great line that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Kind of makes you want to go back and examine some of Besler’s other interviews to see what other gems he has dropped in over the years.

More importantly, can Besler keep this up? This would be a hilarious running gimmick if he could continue to slip in movie quotes during interviews and post-game press conferences.
