Rob Gronkwoski turned what could have been a disaster into a touchdown because that’s what Gronk does.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers dominating much of the offensive action in their Thursday Night Football game against the New England Patriots to kick off the 2015 NFL regular season, the Patriots have dominated the scoreboard. The ever polarizing Rob Gronkowski tried to put the game even more firmly in the grasp of the Pats early in the fourth quarter.
Patriots running back Dion Lewis had the endzone on his mind and got to around the five-yard line before getting popped by a Steelers defender. That’s when the ball came loose and was rolling around on the grass right near the goal line. Ever the opportunist, Gronk jumped on it and tried to steal a touchdown:

Do you think that should have been six points for New England?
Apparently the officials didn’t, because after initially ruling it as a touchdown on the field, they overturned the call and gave the Pats the ball on the one-yard line.
There’s no doubt that Gronk deserves a pat on the back for a heads-up play for even trying to get the touchdown out of a broken play. Of course, he also deserves another pat on the back for ultimately getting in the endzone to end the same drive with his third touchdown catch of the evening:
