The Pittsburgh Steelers look like an unmitigated dumpster fire thus far on defense, losing 14-0 to the New England Patriots in the second quarter of Thursday night’s NFL season opener.
Frankly, nobody should be shocked that Pittsburgh is playing terrible defense. The unit is without Hall of Fame coordinator Dick LeBeau, safety Troy Polamalu, corner Ike Taylor and linebacker Jason Worilds, four key member throughout the years. LeBeau left for the Tennessee Titans, while the other three retired.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions:
Steelers defense looks awful. Troy better come out of retirement

Look at it this way.. The Steelers are doing just enough on O to keep the final score at 28-0

Where are the reroutes, the "putting hands on Gronk" that the #Steelers we're going to do? This is like 7 on 7. In the middle of the field!

The problem with the Steelers defense isn't all physical. They clearly have no idea what they're doing, which is pathetic.

Not sure Ben is really that great. This Steelers defense might expose him as more of a game manager than a franchise QB.

I'm a steelers fan but we got the worst defense in the whole nfl no doubt

The good news? Pittsburgh has a great offense, so it can get back into this game if the defense shows up. Unfortunately, the Steelers don’t appear to be capable of that, so don’t expect a massive comeback out of the black and gold.
