Disney bidding farewell to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights after 20 years
Preparing for a massive expansion to the park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is bidding farewell to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights after 20 years at the park.
Anyone who has been to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida during the holidays over the course of the last two decades knows that Disney goes all out when it comes to the holidays. One of their biggest attractions has been the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
Each and every year, people come from far and wide to witness the event which, coming from someone who has had the pleasure of experiencing this illuminating event, is indeed one of the biggest holiday spectacles one could ever hope to see.
Unfortunately, when the lights twinkle out this season, it will be for the last time. Walt Disney World confirmed a rumor that had been circulating for quite some time that this year would be the final year of the holiday spectacular, which brings millions and millions of people to the park every year.
While we are especially sad to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights leave the park forever, as it brings back many memories we hope to never forget, there is a method to the madness of the people in power at the House of Mouse.
On the Disney Parks Blog, Disney tells park guests that the end of the show was a necessary evil as they prepare for a massive expansion about to take place in the park.
As most of you know by now, Disney plans to expand on their Star Wars interactions at the park by creating a Star Wars Land. Disney also plans to expand their Pixar reach as they develop a new Toy Story Land.
As you can imagine, expansions like this one take plenty of space…space that is currently being used by the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights during the holidays. If there is anything that Disney is always sure to stick to, it is continuity and making sure that each and every guest experience the magic to the fullest. In other words, there is no mixing of themes.
As we mentioned before, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has been a staple at the park for the last twenty years. The display, which contains millions and millions of sparkling lights and huge holiday displays, was originally the property of a businessman by the name of Jennings Osborne who originally created the display for his family.
We don’t know about you, but we are certainly going to miss this yearly holiday tradition when the lights go out at the end of this holiday season. The holidays at the Walt Disney World Resort simply won’t be the same without it.
Unfortunately, with change comes sacrifice, and the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights was that sacrifice. Hopefully, the new additions the park has planned with be absolutely spectacular and bring just as much magic to the hearts of their guests as the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has for this Disney lover.
If you information on the many ways you can experience the magic of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights one last time, you can head on over to the official Walt Disney World site for all the details. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will begin on November 6, 2015 and conclude on January 3, 2016.
