Missouri Tigers vs. Arkansas State Red Wolves

The unranked Arkansas State Red Wolves (0-1) are hosting the No. 21 Missouri Tigers (1-0) in Jonesboro, Arkansas on Saturday. After their overwhelming defeat to USC last week, Arkansas State is hoping to regroup and prove they can hold their own against a ranked team. Missouri, on the other hand, is unlikely to let that happen. The last time these two teams met was in 2013 when Missouri beat the Red Wolves 41-19, scoring most of their points in the final quarter.

Keys to Victory

Though Arkansas State was trounced by USC, losing 55-6, there were some bright spots in their game. The Red Wolves defense totaled five sacks in the first half, and by the end of the game, they had accumulated 401 offensive yards. Of those 401 yards, 208 were on the ground. Still, Arkansas State sabotaged itself with four turnovers and 88 yards in penalties. If Arkansas State hopes to put up a fight against a very strong Missouri squad, they will have to eliminate those kinds of mistakes.

Missouri’s defense was nearly impenetrable last week, giving up only three points and allowing only 56 passing yards. Arkansas State has a poor passing game to begin with, so Missouri should put up an equally impressive performance on Saturday. The Missouri passing game is also stupendous with Tyler Hunt, J’Mon Moore, and Nate Brown all reliable targets. The Tigers also have a variety of options beyond these three standouts.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Missouri by 10.5
Moneyline: Missouri: -430; Arkansas State: +360

Prediction

Missouri is coming off of a 34-3 victory over Southeast Missouri and should have no trouble defeating Arkansas State, especially given the strength of their defense and wide range of options on offense.

Final Score: Missouri: 31, Arkansas State: 10
