Daley Blind was the man to put Manchester United ahead of Liverpool early in the second half
Manchester United and Liverpool played to a draw in the first half of their marquee Premier League matchup. The first half of the match looked more like a war of attrition rather than a top-tier fixture in English football. United defender Daley Blind had his mind on changing that early in the second half.
In the 49th minute, United was awarded a free kick just outside the box on the left edge. Juan Mata lined up to take the kick, but instead of getting a cross in the air towards goal, he booted it on the ground to the top of the box. At that moment Blind was breaking and was able to deliver a fantastic strike to give Man U the lead.
There wasn’t a whole lot that Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet could have done about that one; it was rocketed on an open run at the ball. Regardless, it’s a superb effort from United and Blind to give them the first lead of the match.
