The New York Giants went into AT&T Stadium and shocked the experts… for 59 minutes and 53 seconds. Then, incredibly, the Dallas Cowboys overcame three turnovers in a 27-26 win. The deciding play came with seven seconds remaining, when Tony Romo hit tight end Jason Witten for an 11-yard touchdown.

The Giants did nothing special offensively, and it finally caught up with them. Of course, New York’s playcalling will be questioned for days after it decided to throw on 3rd and Goal with under two minutes remaining, despite Dallas not having a timeout. The play ended in an incompletion and saved Dallas 40 critical seconds.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Tony Romo

Despite losing and throwing two interceptions, Romo was terrific throughout the game. Both interceptions were the result of receivers tipping passes to defensive backs. Romo completed 36-of-45 attempts for 356 yards and a pair of scores, keeping Dallas alive despite the complete lack of a rushing attack. Romo also came through in the clutch.

2. Jason Witten

Witten caught eight passes for 60 yards, including the 11-yard touchdown to win the game with seven seconds remaining. Witten continues to show why he is Romo’s favorite target, especially with Dez Bryant dealing with a foot injury in the locker room. Without Witten, Dallas is 0-1.

3. Steve Spagnuolo

Spagnuolo is back with the Giants as defensive coordinator after spending the previous six seasons with three different teams, and New York is happy to have him. Spagnuolo’s group was able to force three turnovers that led to 17 point, keeping the Giants afloat when the offense was doing nothing. However, this unit will be remembered for blowing the lead in the final seconds, but without the turnovers, this game is a blowout.

Odds

Dallas was favored by six points in this game and did not cover the spread.
