The Houston Texans waited less than a week to yank Brian Hoyer in favor of Ryan Mallett.

It didn’t take long for the quarterback drama in Houston to hit the next level. Brian Hoyer was named the starter in training camp but his reign lasted less than 60-minutes as he was replaced by Ryan Mallett in the fourth quarter of Week 1.

Hoyer managed to get the Texans 9-points in his start before the Texans yanked him for Mallett. In his first drive as a starting quarterback, Mallett drive Houston down the field and not only got them a touchdown but converted the two-point conversion to bring Houston within two scores of the Chiefs late in the game.

This was something that we knew could happen, as Bill O’Brien made it clear on Hard Knocks when he named Hoyer the starter that there wouldn’t be a ton of length on his leash. Part of the reason for keeping Mallett around was to have a guy ready to step in and replace Hoyer and not miss a beat if need be.

That happened on Sunday — less than a full week into the season — and the Texans circus continues to get interesting.
