Jameis Winston tosses first career TD pass (Video)
Buccaneers rookie Jameis Winston threw his first career touchdown pass to Austin Seferian-Jenkins
Jameis Winston’s first drive in the NFL and as the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t go as planned as he threw a pick-six that put his team down 14-0. Not to be denied, Winston recovered two drives later to drive down the field and ultimately redeem himself after the costly turnover.
Winston almost had another bad turnover on the drive after fumbling a snap, but he recovered it and got it together afterwards. After an incredible catch by Austin Seferian-Jenkins to get a first down, Jameis bought some time with his legs by getting outside of the pocket and again found Seferian-Jenkins open, this time for six points:
There has never been a question about the ability of Winston in terms of him being an NFL quarterback. His ability to buy plays, see the field, and back all of that up with a monster arm is undeniable when assessing him as a player. That touchdown drive certainly encapsulated what he’s capable of in an NFL offense.
Much like Brett Favre (not that he’s going to be an all-time great), Winston has the tendency to be a bit of a gunslinger. The battle going forward in his young career will be making sure that the times that pays off outweighs the times it costs him.
