New York Jets rookie Lorenzo Mauldin was taken to the hospital after being carted off the field during Week 1.

Injuries are always going to be a part of sports, but not all injuries are made the same. Some are a lot scarier than others and that’s what fans in attendance at the Jets-Browns game in the Meadowlands had to witness.

After a scary collision, Jets rookie Lorenzo Malden was carted off the field and taken to the hospital after injuries he suffered late in the game.

This is not the way you want to start any Sunday of football, let alone the first Sunday of the year. Football is a dangerous sport, that’s something we’re reminded of on a constant basis, and this is the latest reminder that the game if far from being perfectly safe to play.

No further updates are available at the moment on Mauldin’s status but everyone in the NFL is thinking about him as no one wants to see something like this happen ever. Injuries will always happen, but ones like this make us all take pause and recognize the dangers of football.
