Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown has left the game against the New York Jets with an apparent injury. While no details of the injury have been released yet, it appears McCown was hurt when he dove for the end zone and was crushed by two Jets defenders.

It’s pretty obvious there has to be concern about McCown’s head. The veteran signal-caller took a heck of shot and now sets the stage for backup quarterback and last year’s first-round pick, Johnny Manziel. Manziel has been enjoying a nice preseason and training camp, although he did go through a sore arm period at the end of August and beginning of September.

Manziel only started two games last year for the Browns and was terrible, calling into question whether or not the former Heisman Trophy winner should have been taken so high. Cleveland has not wavered on the selection, believing he is still the quarterback of the future.

If McCown is seriously injured, Manziel seems to be the only real option for the Browns. Cleveland is expected to finish last in the AFC North again, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens all looking to make another trip to the playoffs. Last year, Cleveland started out 6-3 but then fell apart down the stretch, finishing the season at 7-9.
