The Dallas Cowboys feel they got a steal in defensive end Randy Gregory when they drafted him out of the University of Nebraska in the second round of the 2015 National Football League draft. Unfortunately, Gregory is already injured, although the extent of his injury is unknown at this point.

Gregory hurt his right leg in the third quarter of Dallas’ Sunday Night Football contest against the New York Giants. Michele Tafoya of NBC Sports reported from the sideline that Gregory is being evaluated for a sprained ankle, which would be a pretty acceptable outcome for the Cowboys after watching the youngster need assistance to get off the field.

With Gregory on the sideline, Dallas does not have much pass-rushing ability. The Cowboys signed the much-maligned Greg Hardy in the offseason to provide some pass rush, but he is suspended for the first four games. Throughout Sunday’s game, Gregory was outplaying left tackle Ereck Flowers, who is also making his NFL debut after being a first-round pick out of the University of Miami (FL).

Gregory was expected to be drafted in the first 10 picks of the draft before off-the-field issues and character concerns caused the prolific college superstar to fall almost two full rounds. Dallas snatched him up midway through the second night of the proceedings, hoping to get lucky with Gregory in the way the Kansas City Chiefs did back in 2011 with Justin Houston. Houston was supposed to be a first-round pick before failing a drug test at the NFL Combine, forcing him to fall into the third round.
