Two Utah Utes football players in stable condition following Saturday night shooting
Two Utah Utes football players are in stable condition following a shooting on Saturday night.
Two Utah Utes football players were involved in a shooting late Saturday evening. According to Salt Lake City police, Lo Falemaka and Marcel Brooks-Brown were both shot after they denied several individuals to a private party. Both Falemaka and Brooks-Brown were shot in the torso, but are currently in stable condition.
In a public statement, Utah’s head coach Kyle Whittingham expressed his concerns for the families of the victims, and was cautiously optimistic that both players would fully recover.
"“Obviously, our first concern is that both Lo and Marcel are going to be OK, which appears to be the case,” coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. “We don’t have all of the details yet, but it is our understanding that they are the victims in this incident and we feel very fortunate that they are expected to fully recover. It is unknown at this time how soon they will be able to return to the football field but we are optimistic it will be in the near future.”"
As of post the suspects responsible for the shooting are still at large.
Utah did not have a game on Saturday; the Utes defeated in-state rival Utah State on Friday evening, 24-14.
