Michael Irvin delivered the most epic pro-Tony Romo speech after leading the Cowboys to a comeback win.
The Dallas Cowboys shocked the NFL world by coming from behind to upset the New York Giants in the final seconds of Sunday Night Football.
Quarterback Tony Romo was mainly responsible for the win, leading two touchdown drives in the Cowboys final possessions to take the lead, while his star receiver was in the locker room being treated for a broken bone in his foot.
Romo has been a divisive and polarizing player in the league. Some think he is overrated and prone to mistakes that cost his team the game, other’s say he is clutch and an elite quarterback, but a few late mishaps have overshadowed his stellar play.
Former Cowboys receiver and NFL pundit Michael Irvin is in the latter. During his “Open Mike” segment on the NFL Network after the game, Irvin went on to preach about Romo’s greatness from the mountaintop and demand that his colleagues respect him.
“I want Romo to get the kind of love that they give other quarterbacks around here,” Irvin says channeling his inner preacher.
“It’s time to give Romo his love. Romo reached down into the mouth of defeat and snatched out victory. He has a great story, coming from nothing to something. All-time leading quarterback in Cowboys’ history.
“When you mention his name, I want to feel it. I want intimacy. I want you to say it so well, that I feel it inside of me.”
You can’t help but watch this and wonder what Irvin was like in the locker room during his playing days.
That speech brings back memories of the Dez Bryant commercial for Beats By Dre, which used a passionate Michael Irvin’s comments about him during a radio interview.
