College Football Results Against The Spread Week 2

There were 51 FBS vs. FBS games last weekend. I came out at 26-25, running my season total to 46-43. I’m still keeping my head above water, which is an improvement over last year. Here are the picks if you want to follow along!

Here is how the points came out. Season totals are in parenthesis.

1: 1-1 (3-4)

2: 7-8 (16-14)

3: 7-8 (13-13)

4: 11-5 (15-9)

5: 0-3 (0-4)

That netted me a total of four points, bringing my season total to 7. I am still ahead of the books! However, I am 0-4 on my five pointers this year which are supposed to be locks. The moral of the story is, trust my 4’s more, I guess.

Here are my college football results against the spread week 2. Winners against the spread are in BOLD.

Louisiana Tech(-1.5) at Western Kentucky: HIT! This was a close game like everyone thought, but I seriously doubted La Tech could stop Doughty when it counted.

Miami(FL)(-17.5) at Florida Atlantic: HIT! This was the biggest even in Boca Raton in a while, but the Owls got steamrolled after halftime.

Utah State at Utah(-12.5): MISS! Chuckie Keeton looked much better in this game. That is a good thing for the Aggies going forward.

South Florida at Florida State(-28.5): MISS! How was I to know that Everett Golson was going to turn into Christian Hackenberg’s week 1 incarnate?

Oregon State at Michigan(-14.5): MISS! De’Veon Smith is hard to stop. Can the defenses in the Big Ten(14) do it? We will find out soon enough!

Army at Connecticut(-7.5): MISS! There are one point games for a reason, I guess…..

Kansas State(-16.5) at UTSA: MISS! This was a strong showing by Kansas State against a UTSA team that scared Arizona pretty good.

Bowling Green at Maryland(-7.5): MISS! Bowling Green offense, meet the world. World, I present the Bowling Green offense. It looks better than it has since Omar Jacobs was under center. It might even be better than that!

Houston at Louisville(-13.5): MISS! I was wrong about a few things here. Auburn really isn’t that good, and Louisville’s QB situation might be the worst debacle in the country. At least Florida has a plan for their two quarterbacks….

Buffalo at Penn State(-19.5): HIT! The regression of Christian Hackenberg continues.

Miami(OH) at Wisconsin(-32.5): HIT! This was power running at it’s finest from about four different backs.

Wake Forest at Syracuse(-4.5): HIT! Nice job by the Orange defense to shut out Wake in the second half.

Appalachian State at Clemson(-19.5): HIT! Clemson’s offense is still a force so long as Deshaun Watson is healthy.

Massachusetts at Colorado(-12.5): HIT! This was a strong showing by Colorado, but we still don’t know what to expect from them. We will find out this week!

UTEP at Texas Tech(-20.5): MISS! This would have been an entirely different story if Aaron Jones hadn’t left the game with an injury. He had no trouble carving up the Red Raiders front when he was in there.

Hawaii at Ohio State(-40.5): HIT! As bad as Hawaii looked, I am surprised that the Buckeyes didn’t cover. In fact, Ohio State scored most of their 38 points (21) in the fourth quarter!

Minnesota(-5.5) at Colorado State: MISS! I knew better.

Washington State at Rutgers(-3.5): HIT! If Mike Leach could ever build a respectable defense, he would be a Hall of Fame coach.

Tulane at Georgia Tech(-28.5): HIT! I should have put five points on this one. Tech looks unstoppable right now, but they will get tested this week.

Notre Dame(-12.5) at Virginia: HIT! I doubt the Irish could have covered even with Zaire in, but it was sure more comfortable for the Irish fans when he was in there. As I watched the game, I was really hoping that he would be okay, but I knew otherwise. That was nasty, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Georgia(-20.5) at Vanderbilt: MISS! Who knew that Vandy could hold their own?

Fresno State at Mississippi(-29.5): HIT! What a performance by the Ole Miss offense. Wow!

Middle Tennessee State at Alabama(-35.5): MISS! I knew I didn’t like this line….

Toledo at Arkansas(-21.5): MISS! This might be the most surprising upset to me since Appalachian State ousted Michigan several years back. I was that surprised by this.

Eastern Michigan at Wyoming(-13.5): HIT! Do you think Craig Bohl wishes he was back at North Dakota State yet? I’m quite sure the Cowboys are worse than the team he left behind in Fargo.

Iowa(-3.5) at Iowa State: MISS! This was an inspired performance by the Hawkeyes. Especially the defense, who pitched a second half shutout.

San Diego State at California(-13.5): HIT! Goff will finally get to strut his stuff on a national stage against a real team this week. Is he ready?

Oklahoma(-1.5) at Tennessee: HIT! Tennessee was actually favored by the time this kicked off, and the people who took the Vols looked like geniuses for the first 52 minutes, in which Tennessee dominated. Then I got a birthday present. That said, if Tennessee hadn’t lost Curt Maggit, Oklahoma wouldn’t have pulled this out. He was a terror when he was in there, and the line couldn’t stop him.

Pittsburgh(-12.5) at Akron: MISS! I knew better. Just because Oklahoma chose not to run on Akron doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be run on.

Western Michigan(-4.5) at Georgia Southern: MISS! It’s official: Sparty was looking ahead.

Marshall(-3.5) at Ohio: MISS! Did anyone else see this coming? Ohio is finally back after a couple of off years.

North Texas at SMU(-4.5): HIT! The Mustangs are not nearly as bad as they have been the last couple of years.

Arizona(-11.5) at Nevada: HIT! Easy money!

Ball State at Texas A&M(-29.5): HIT! David Letterman U sure made us sweat this with 20 second half points.

Missouri(-11.5) at Arkansas State: MISS! Does this mean that Missouri is bad or USC is really good? Maybe a little of both…..

East Carolina at Florida(-20.5): MISS! The Pirates scared the pants off of Florida. The moral of the story? PICK A QUARTERBACK AND STICK WITH IT! Good grief! You would think that the coaches would learn by now. This rarely, if ever, works!

Memphis(-13.5) at Kansas: HIT! Kansas might not win a game.

Kentucky at South Carolina(-8.5): MISS! This was the kind of game that Kentucky flirted with all season last year. They finally pulled one off! It won’t be the last. That is if Kentucky can learn how to close out games. They have nearly given both games away after building a big lead.

Idaho at USC(-43.5): HIT! This was the kind of spread that USC never covered for whatever reason in their mid-2000’s heyday. Does that say something is different about this team?

Oregon at Michigan State(-3.5): HIT! This game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Luckily Oregon picked up that last touchdown.

South Alabama at Nebraska(-27.5): MISS! This was a methodical beatdown by Nebraska, and the announcement that Terrell Newby in the new bell cow in Lincoln.

Rice at Texas(-14.5): MISS! I’m an idiot! I knew I didn’t like that half!

Florida International at Indiana(-7.5): Indiana’s offense is still good. The rest of the team needs work.

Temple at Cincinnati(-6.5): MISS! The Owls are good enough to win the AAC. They might even be good enough to crash the BCS party. The true test will come on Halloween night against Notre Dame.

Tulsa at New Mexico(-3.5): HIT! I knew that Tulsa wasn’t quite this bad. I didn’t expect them to beat on the Lobos though.

Georgia State at New Mexico State(-6.5): HIT! My lucky 1977 quarter comes through again in its first use of the season!

LSU(-4.5) at Mississippi State: HIT! The SEC West is still brutal, maybe even more so than last year since there isn’t a clear cut best team right now.

San Jose State at Air Force(-6.5): HIT! Home field advantage does it again!

Boise State(-2.5) at BYU: HIT! This is what happens when Boise plays good teams during the season. You don’t want to play the Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl though.

UCLA(-30.5) at UNLV: MISS! I should have known better with Decker out.

Central Florida at Stanford(-19.5): MISS! Stanford looked much better in this one.

Stay tuned for this week’s picks against the spread!
