Draymond Green didn’t have real Larry O’Brien trophy with him on College GameDay?

Draymond Green and Festus Ezeli were on television this past Saturday live at the same time with the Larry O’Brien trophy, but who had the real one?

This past Saturday the crew from College GameDay were in East Lansing in anticipation of the huge showdown between the Michigan State Spartans and Oregon Ducks. For the festivities, NBA Champion and Michigan State alumnus Draymond Green was there on hand to be the guest picker. With him, he brought the Larry O’Brien trophy that he had just helped the Golden State Warriors win.

But, then things got a little confusing. At the same time that Green was on ESPN with the College GameDay crew, teammate Festus Ezeli was on the SEC Network at his alma mater of Vanderbilt — also with the Larry O’Brien trophy. OK, something has to give here. One of these guys was on ESPN television with a fake, and it might not be who you thought it was.

Adam Sparks of the Tennessean explains that it was in fact Ezeli who had the real NBA title trophy in Vanderbilt with him, while Green was the one who had the impostor.

"Ezeli had the real trophy earned and owned by the Warriors, according to Massimo Degaudenzi, Golden State’s assistant for corporate communications, who escorted the hardware to Nashville from California. Degaudenzi said the one Green had was a replica trophy the NBA office uses for public events."

This isn’t to take anything away from Ezeli, but you would think that for a prominent appearance like being the guest picker on College GameDay, Green would be the one that has the real deal in his hands. Then, let’s be honest, Green is the more notable member of the team out of the two.

Well, there’s one thing you can be proud of, Vanderbilt. You had the guy with the real NBA title hardware. That’s … something.
