Jamaal Charles opens scoring for Kansas City (Video)
Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles opened the scoring against the Denver Broncos with a big run.
Thursday’s contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos may have gotten off to a slow start, but that didn’t stop sparks from flying when the electric Jamaal Charles got a hold of the ball in open field.
With 9:11 remaining in the second quarter, Charles took a handoff from Alex Smith, and broke to the outside for a 34-yard gain. He was able to beat out a few Broncos defenders thanks to some great blocking downfield to find the endzone for the first time on the night.
At the time of the touchdown, Charles has 72 yards rushing on just eight carries. That’s good for an astounding nine yards per carry.
It’s a bit surprising that the Chiefs have the lead against Denver so far after the Broncos forced and recovered two Kansas City fumbles. Fortunately for Kansas City, Denver was unable to put points up on the board.
Just two minutes later, the Chiefs scored on an interception return to make the game 14-0 in the second. It’s just week two, but it’s clear that the Broncos just aren’t the same team they were a year ago whereas the Chiefs appear on the cusp of becoming a serious contender in the AFC West.
