18. Randy Johnson 2000

19 wins

347 strikeouts

12.5 K/9 ratio

Randy Johnson owned the NL Cy Young Award. From 1999-2002 it was his. His age 36 season in 2000 was one of his best with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Johnson led all pitchers in WAR with 8.1 which placed him third in the league behind Barry Bonds and Andruw Jones. Johnson won 19 games which placed him third in the league. His K/9 ratio was 12.5 which was almost three full strikeouts ahead of second place finisher Rick Ankiel.

He could have led the league in ERA if not for giving up eight runs in three innings in his final start. His 2.64 ERA did place him second.

Johnson’s back to back awards made him just the third pitcher ever to win it back to back. Johnson was tied for the lead in games started with 35, complete games with new teammate Curt Schilling at eight and shutouts with three.

Johnson became just the third pitcher ever to win six games before May 1. He was 15-2 with a 2.01 ERA before the All-Star break. He joined Nolan Ryan in becoming the second pitcher ever to strikeout over 300 batters in three seasons.

Johnson would only get better though.
