The San Diego Chargers are traveling to take on the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with one team about to receive its first loss. In Week 1, the Bengals hammered the hapless Oakland Raiders, 33-13, while the Chargers erased an early 18-point deficit to beat the Detroit Lions, 33-28.

This should be one of the best Week 2 games of the day. San Diego and Cincinnati have both been two of the best AFC franchises over the past decades, despite precious little success in the postseason. Ironically, the last playoff game won by the Chargers was in 2013 over Andy Dalton and the Bengals on the road.

In this contest, Dalton and his mates are trying to reach 2-0 for the second consecutive year. Week 1 left the Bengals in sole possession of first place, with the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers all losing.

Meanwhile, the Chargers are expected to be in a dogfight for the AFC West alongside the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. In each of the last two years, head coach Mike McCoy has led the Chargers to a 9-7 record, making the playoffs once and missing last season.

For San Diego to have success, it needs Philip Rivers to be sublime. Rivers does not have the benefit of a terrific offensive line or a quality defense, so the pressure is on the veteran quarterback to sling the pigskin. Last week, Rivers was the only quarterback to throw for more than 400 yards in San Diego’s comeback victory over the Lions.
