Buffalo Bills defensive back Aaron Williams has been taken off the field in an ambulance after sustaining an apparent injury against the New England Patriots. Williams was attempting to make a tackle on Julian Edelman, and Williams’ neck snapped back when his facemask hit Edelman’s back.

Williams was not shown moving after the play and spent several minutes down on the field with medical personnel around him. The youngster from the University of Texas was then strapped down to a board and put on a stretcher before Williams was lifted into the ambulance, which came onto the field. Williams’ hands were taped down to the straps on the board, keeping him from moving.

Williams is in his fifth season with Buffalo, and has developed into a nice player on the back end. Williams played nine games in his rookie season before getting into 11 games in 2012. Williams is yet to play a full season, dealing with nagging injuries throughout his career.

Hopefully, Williams can return to the football field at some point. Any time you see a player having to leave the field strapped down to a stretcher, it puts into perspective just how much the final score of a game means. Buffalo is trailing 34-13 to the New England Patriots at Ralph Wilson Stadium, about to fall to 1-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the Patriots will go to 2-0 and play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Gillette Stadium next week.
