35. Final. 28. 53. 14

Marcus Mariota got off to a huge start in his NL career last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but this week was a lot more sobering of an experience. The Cleveland Browns defense was all over the rookie from Oregon and they gave him his ‘welcome to the NFL’ moment in Week 2.

Highlights

Three Stars of the Game

1. Travis Benjamin

Everyone was talking about Johnny Manziel and Marcus Mariota, but the surprise star of the game was Travis Benjamin, who did things through the air and in the return game as well. Benjamin went for 115 yards through the air but made a dent in the return game going for 154 yards and a touchdown on six returns. This was a breakout game for the young receiver and if he can continue to be a deep threat for the Browns then this might be a magical connection for Johnny Manziel.

2. Johnny Manziel

After losing the starting job in the offseason to Josh McCown, Manziel came out and showed that he’s more than just a changed person — he’s a changed player as well. Manziel came out of the Week 2 win with only 172 yards through the air but he connected with Travis Benjamin twice and didn’t commit a turnover. It’s progress for Manziel and it’s something that the Browns are more than happy to see.

3. Browns Defense

There wasn’t one player who stood out for the Browns, but the unit as a whole was outstanding on Sunday against the Titans. They were all over Marcus Mariota and made him look like the rookie we thought he might look like last week. It wasn’t a pretty game and Mariota showed flashes but for the most part the Cleveland D was merciless against the rookie and they have a lot to build on after this week.

Odds

The spread was even, so you didn’t win any money against the spread, only head-to-head.

Next Week

The Browns will host the Oakland Raiders next week while the Titans will host their first home game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts.
