Denny Hamlin overcame all the odds at Chicagoland to win. Here’s the complete finishing order for Sunday’s race.
Denny Hamlin probably wasn’t a favorite heading into the race at Chicagoland on Sunday and for good reason. Rain in qualifying meant he had to start 29th to begin the race. An early spin out meant he would have to come back from a lap down against strong competition to win a race.
Yet, Hamlin did every single one of those things as he stole a race at Chicagoland. On the final restart with six laps to go, it looked like it was going to be a battle between Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon for the win on the track. Instead of that happening, Denny Hamlin forced his way in from out of nowhere and took the lead.
He never looked back and no one else could catch him as he guaranteed himself a spot in the next round of “The Chase.” Joe Gibbs Racing continues to pile up wins and it’s apparent now that there isn’t any team that can stop them. Their biggest threat, Kevin Harvick, has probably seen his chances at defending his title come to an end. Joe Gibbs Racing and Denny Hamlin are on top after Sunday’s race.
