Cutler dove at Jefferson as he ran by for the touchdown, leading with his throwing shoulder. It would appear to be how Cutler was injured.

If Cutler can’t come back, the Bears would be putting Jimmy Clausen into the game. Clausen was at one time an elite college quarterback with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but fell to the middle rounds when the Carolina Panthers snatched him up. Clausen was never able to make an impact, and has rode the bench. It makes sense that Clausen would be in Chicago, considering John Fox was the head coach of Carolina when Clausen was selected and is now running the Bears.
Cutler has been crushed in the Chicago media for being aloof and uninterested, but nobody can question his toughness. Cutler has been taking a brutal pounding for years behind horrible Chicago offensive lines and continues to fight back, albeit in a losing battle. The Bears are already struggling this season, losing in Week 1 at home to the Green Bay Packers before allowing 28 points in the first half at Soldier Field to the Cardinals.
