The New Day retained their titles against the Dudley Boyz, but Bubba Ray and D-Von got the last laugh
As The New Day continued their plight to save the tables in their feud with the legendary Dudley Boyz, the Dudleys in turn came into WWE Night of Champions trying to become 10-time WWE Tag Team Champions. It was Big E and Kofi Kingston again representing New Day and trying to stop the tag legends from making that happen.
D-Von and Kofi were in the ring to start the match and it was a true contrast of styles. D-Von tried to assert his power advantage over Kingston, but Kofi’s quickness proved to be problematic and created some nice offense for New Day:
However, D-Von tagged Bubba Ray in and New Day was forced to regroup, which included tagging in Big E. The veteran Bubba gained the advantage and stayed on top of Big E, including a humungous superplex:
Even when Kofi was tagged back in, Bubba Ray kept the Dudleys out in front of the action. It wasn’t until Xavier Woods caused a brief distraction that New Day was able to hit the big man from behind and get the edge back in the contest.
After that, New Day really started taking it to Bubba Ray as they isolated him away from D-Von. Kingston worked him with quick-hitting strikes, but Big E delivered a monstrous blow with a leg drop on the apron that landed flush on Bubba’s upper body:
Bubba continued to take a beating, but finally caught a break when Kofi tried some acrobatic offense on the legendary brawler and was met with a Full Nelson Slam:
The Dudleys seemed well on their way to becoming 10-time champs, disposing of Big E and having Kofi isolated and dazed. They then hit Kingston with the 3-D and that seemed like all she wrote:
Of course, Woods had other plans as he slid in the ring to break up the pin and get New Day disqualified. The champs retained while the Dudleys were announced as the winners, but the legendary team was jumped after the match and left ailing.
In a true heel move, Xavier Woods then called for the tables to give the Dudleys some of their own medicine. However, the Dudley Boyz sprung back to life and disposed of Kingston and Big E, leaving Woods all alone and unaware. That ended as you would expect, with Woods going through the table with a 3-D:
