Results and video highlights for Seth Rollins vs. John Cena at WWE Night of Champions
Jon Stewart cost John Cena his WWE United State Championship and his shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam by interfering in his match with Seth Rollins. At Night of Champions, Cena was looking for retribution as he cashed in his rematch clause for the U.S. title against Rollins.
Cena looked to gain the advantage early on against Rollins with some strikes, but Rollins was able to counter and get on the offensive. Knowing he had another match following this bout, Rollins slowed down the action with some methodical strikes and some submission holds. However, he pulled out something big when he got Cena hung on the ropes in the corner as he hit a massive double-foot stomp that brought Cena crashing down:
A cocky Rollins gloated after putting the challenger down, but Cena tried to catch him with a roll-up pin. The champ was able to kick out and again get on the offensive against Cena. Ever arrogant, Rollins gloated more and went for the Five-Knuckle Shuffle. Cena countered, though, as Rollins went off the ropes and the challenger hit a shoulder-block. What ensued was a series of counters that ultimately resulted with Cena hitting a nice Rolling Yoshi Tonic:
Rollins again tried to get back on top in the action by attempting a running powerbomb, but Cena countered to hit him with a wicked Hurricanrana into the turnbuckle:
Rollins wouldnāt be denied, though, as he countered an AA and put Cena down with two superkicks:
With Cena down, Rollins started pulling out the big offense. That included a beautiful flip to the outside that stunned Cena in a big way:
Looking to put an end to the match, Rollins went for the Phoenix Splash after getting Cena back into the ring. That missed as Cena rolled out of the way. Cena began to get his offense in again, but made a mistake by trying to go off the top rope. Rollins popped up to meet him up there and nailed a monster superplex that bridged into another vertical suplex after:
The action wasnāt over there as Cena continued to fight valiantly as he tried to reclaim his title. Rollins was relentless in keeping aggressive, including landing the powerbomb into the turnbuckle. Thatās when SuperCena showed up to the fight.
Rollins and Cena traded offense, which resulted in Rollins rolling into an AA attempt. Cena squirmed out of that and hit Rollins with a big suplex, a leg drop off the top rope, and then an AA. That was enough to end the match for Cena and make him United States Champion again:
After the match, the two competitors kept mouthing off and Cena was having none of it. He then hit Rollins with another AA on the outside and rolled Rollins back into the ring for his second match of the night:
