Christian Ponder and Matt Flynn will reportedly work out for the Dallas Cowboys to replace Tony Romo

The Dallas Cowboys are in a bad spot looking ahead in the 2015 NFL season. Yes, they sit atop the NFC East with a 2-0 record through Week Two, but they are also without their two best skill position players for quite some time. It was wide receiver Dez Bryant going down in Week One and then quarterback Tony Romo breaking his clavicle in Week Two.

With Romo going out with that injury, the Cowboys had to rely on Brandon Weeden to close out the victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He was serviceable in that game, but the Cowboys are hoping to find a better option for the eight weeks that Romo is expected to be out, or at the very least, a good backup for Weeden. According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Cowboys’ other options as of right now include Christian Ponder and Matt Flynn, both of whom could be going into Dallas for a workout:

Oh yeah, Josh Johnson is reportedly going to work out for the Cowboys, as well. Not that it matters because Johnson, Ponder, Flynn, and Weeden also all are substantially worse at playing quarterback in the NFL than Romo.

We all know that signing Tim Tebow would make the biggest headlines for the Cowboys. However, they are apparently looking for more conservative options to replace Romo during his absence. We’ll see if Ponder, Flynn, or Johnson is the guy they land on or if it’s another option that they deem to be a better solution.
