The Chicago Bears look like one of the worst teams in the National Football League, and it could be getting even worse quickly. Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler has a strained hamstring, and there is not timetable for his return, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Head coach John Fox would not confirm or deny reports that Cutler went in for MRI tests, which tells you all you need to know. Cutler was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals in the second quarter, when he tried to make a tackle on Tony Jefferson after an interception. Cutler missed the tackle (which he attempted with his throwing shoulder) and was replaced by Jimmy Clausen for the rest of the game.
If Cutler is out for even a week, it spells major trouble for the Bears. Chicago is already 0-2 and now faces the Seattle Seahawks in their home opener at CenturyLink Field. Considering the Seahawks are 0-2 and on the proverbial brink, it is almost impossible to see Chicago going into the northwest and getting a win, especially with the underwhelming Clausen at the helm.
The shame of Cutler’s injury is two-fold. Cutler was actually carving up a good Arizona secondary before throwing his interception, sitting at 8-for-8 with 120 yards and a touchdown. Cutler also got hurt trying to make a play, something even the fans in the Windy City can’t get on him about. Cutler has taken plenty of heat over his time in Chicago for the perception that he does not care.
