Jason Pierre-Paul back doing bench press (Video)
Jason Pierre-Paul is bench-pressing again after losing a finger in a July 4 fireworks incident
The New York Giants could use all of the help that they can get going into Week 3 and beyond in the 2015 NFL season. The G-Men sit at 0-2 to start the season and their defense has largely been shredded over those first two losses. They could use a strong defensive presence and Jason Pierre-Paul is dropping hints that he’s close to at least trying to provide that for his team.
After a fireworks accident on July 4 left him without an index finger, missing parts of other fingers, and requiring several surgeries on his hand, the Giants defensive end is continuing to show that he’s well on his way to returning to action. The latest development is this video that Pierre-Paul posted to Instagram of him bench-pressing and working in the gym:
When JPP and the Giants first met early in September about his possible return to the action, the team deemed he wasn’t physically ready for a return. They are expected to meet again soon to reevaluate the situation and possible set a more concrete timetable. Whatever the case, it seems like Pierre-Paul is closer to being back on the field and that the Giants could indeed use him if that is the case.
Pierre-Paul came into the league as a first-round draft pick out of the University of South Florida in 2010 and made a massive impact in 2011, notching 16.5 sacks and an All-Pro designation on the way to a Super Bowl title. Since then, Pierre-Paul did nothing until 2014 when he amassed 12.5 sacks. At this point, Pierre-Paul is without a contract because he has not signed his franchise tag.
