The Dallas Cowboys are 2-0 and leading the NFC East, but all is certainly not well. Despite the fast start that includes two division wins, the Cowboys are without quarterback Tony Romo for at least the next eight weeks (broken clavicle) and star receiver Dez Bryant for 6+ weeks. Now, they could be missing tight end Jason Witten for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, per Ed Werder of ESPN.
"“[Witten] will be day-to-day all week, but he’s not a lock [to play] at this point,” a source said."
Witten is playing with a sprained knee and a pair of sprained ankles. Yet, somehow, he continues to perform at a high level. Witten is doubly important right now because the aforementioned injuries, provided a security blanket for Brandon Weeden. Frankly, Weeden needs to have Witten and a solid running game to support him, or things will get ugly, quickly.

Witten has been one of he most productive players of his era, a sure-fire Hall of Famer when Witten decides to hang up the cleats. Now in his 13th season, Witten has caught 958 passes for 10,618 yards and 59 touchdowns. In terms of productivity, only Tony Gonzalez and Shannon Sharpe can measure up throughout NFL history at the tight end position.
Witten has reached the Pro Bowl 10 times in his illustrious career, including each of the past 11 seasons save 2011. Witten is also a four-time All-Pro and won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award back in 2012.
