Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been known to say some outlandish things during his tenure at the top, but he really outdid himself recently when discussing backup-turned-starting quarterback Brandon Weeden. Weeden, who was a first-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2012, flamed out after two years and joined the Cowboys to fill in behind Tony Romo. Apparently, Weeden should have been starting the whole time.

On 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones dropped this nugget about the former Oklahoma State quarterback, per Bleacher Report.

"“Frankly, you won’t see a more gifted passer,” Jones said."

Umm, what? Weeden has been nothing short of an unmitigated dumpster fire since entering the NFL, despite being drafted as a 27-year-old. Weeden was a complete and utter disgrace with the Browns (which in fairness to Weeden, is something that can happen when you are surrounded by total garbage, including Trent Richardson).

Weeden is clearly one of the worst quarterbacks – reserve or starter – in the NFL. Over his career, Weeden has thrown 27 touchdowns against 28 interceptions. He has done nothing either statistically or in terms of a win-loss record that makes you believe Weeden can do more than throw a few picks and fall short. However, with Dallas and the best offensive line in the NFL, Weeden simply needs to not lose the game. Weeden should be handing off to Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden, throwing short passes to Jason Witten, and hoping that the defense can come through. Apparently, Jones is hoping that Weeden goes Big Boy and starts firing 50 passes per game.

After all, when you have such a gifted passer, you better be chucking the rock all day.
