Offensive Player of the Week

Antonio Brown, WR Pittsburgh Steelers

Antonio Brown is absurd.

Pittsburgh’s star receiver began the season with a very strong performance, catching nine passes for 133 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots. However, that showing was nothing compared to what he would put together in a blowout win over San Francisco in Week 2, as Brown caught 9 of his 11 targets for 195 yards and another score. He is already the game’s best possession receiver, but also boasts the ability to comfortably get behind the defense (21.7 yards per reception in Week 2) and is a consistent threat to produce long runs after the catch. There were many deserving choices here, but Brown was by far the best.

Runner-up: Odell Beckham, Jr. WR New York Giants

Defensive Player of the Week

Ryan Shazier, LB Pittsburgh Steelers

It’s a clean sweep for the Steelers this week, and Shazier was equally as impressive on his side of the ball as Brown was on offense. The former Ohio State standout finished second in the NFL this week with 15 tackles (11 solo). He also added a sack and a forced fumble for good measure. Racking up numbers isn’t the only way to get noticed in this category, though. Shazier was flying around throughout the day, causing havoc and confusion for a San Francisco offense that largely struggled until the game was out of reach. Pittsburgh needs Shazier to be a game-changer every week and he was on this day.

Runner-up: Jamie Collins, LB New England Patriots
