Week 2 Most Valuable Player

Tom Brady, QB New England Patriots

It seems crazy that the same player could earn MVP honors in the first two weeks of the season, but Tom Brady has just been that good.

Brady led the NFL in passing yardage (466) and completions (38) this week while captaining the Patriots to a comfortable win over the Buffalo Bills on the road. The future Hall of Famer was in control throughout the contest, picking apart one of the best defenses in the NFL with a precision passing game, and the fact that Brady was able to lead the Patriots to victory without any semblance of a consistent running game (15 carries, 56 yards) was startlingly impressive.

It wouldn’t be going out on a limb to say that Tom Brady is playing some of the best football of his career, and that is frankly absurd given both his age (38) and the fact that he dealt with a significant distraction in the preseason. He won’t win this award every week, and there were deserving candidates nipping at his heels, but no one was better than Tom Brady in Week 2 – especially when placing his performance in full context of venue and degree of difficulty.

Runner-up: Aaron Rodgers, QB Green Bay Packers
