Mark Wahlberg has discussed potential film with Kings’ Caron Butler
By Tom West
Hollywood star and two-time Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg has reportedly been discussing the possibility of making a biopic on Caron Butler of the Sacramento Kings.
As one of the biggest names in the movie industry, Mark Wahlberg has a fair amount of power when it comes to the process of getting a film made. From films such as “The Fighter” (2010) that earned him an Oscar nomination as a producer, to serving as an executive producer of the current TV hit “Ballers” alongside Dwayne Johnson, whilst starring in NFL film “Invincible” (2006), Wahlberg has both acting and producing experience when it comes to the movie side of the sport industry.
Now, to potentially further that aspect of his resumé, he’s reportedly been in talks to create a film to tell the story of Sacramento Kings forward and 13-year NBA veteran Caron Butler.
As has been reported by TMZ Sports, Mark Wahlberg has been extremely interested by Butler’s book, “Tuff Juice”, and is interested in taking his story one step further and putting it in cinemas.
TMZ have said the following on the matter:
"Wahlberg has been all over “Tuff Juice” … writing testimonials and tweeting his support for the book since its release. Caron tells us it hasn’t stopped there … and that the two men have talked about a feature film adaptation.“It’s a possibility … I’ve spent some time with Mark Wahlberg. He loved my story.”"
As TMZ said, Wahlberg has been supportive of the book, as he tweeted this photo to prove it:
Caron Butler’s book discussed his tough days as a youth after dealing drugs himself to going through other violence and crime surrounding him as well. With those kind of issues to deal with, a film depicting Butler’s life and journey to the NBA would’t just be a success story, but it could instead deal with some serious issues that are extremely prevalent in society.
However, this is purely just a suggestion and there’s no way that we can speculate whether these talks between Wahlberg and Butler will materialize into an actual film yet. Not to mention, it will take years to begin the process and actually shoot the movie.
That being said, if it does get produced some time down the line, it could be an insightful and hard-hitting film if told in the correct way.
