Sting has given an update on his injury status after Night of Champions and an answer to if he’ll ever wrestle again
There were numerous quality matches throughout WWE Night of Champions this past Sunday night, but the biggest story coming out of the evening was the injury to professional wrestling Sting. Sting suffered an injury during his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins in the main event of the show and was reportedly in bad shape after the event. However, the whole ordeal was shrouded in uncertainty.
On Wednesday night, Sting finally shed some light on the matter. In an interview with WWE.com, The Icon gave an update as to what he knows about the extent of his injuries after Night of Champions and on whether or not the pay-per-view was the last time that fans will see Sting in a wrestling ring.
According to the wrestling legend, things got quite scary in the ring after one blow to his back and neck area about 12 minutes into the match. Sting told WWE.com that he felt “tingling” and was numb from his shoulders down to his fingertips. That feeling worsened when he “fell wrong” later in the match and it spread down through his legs. That was the moment when he dropped to all fours.
In terms of the actual extent of his injury, Sting only knew what doctors told his wife at the hospital after his match. He says that he heard the doctor say something about cervical spinal stenosis and that he was “lucky he walked out of there.” He also disclosed that he underwent a CT scan and an MRI at the hospital and that he still needs further evaluation regarding his injury.
When asked about possibly competing in professional wrestling ring again, Sting was ultimately non-committal. He said that he would return to action “in the right scenario” and said that the answer to if this was his last match or not is “truly a question mark” that’s “as bold as it could be at this point.”
It’s also worth noting that Sting was highly complimentary of Rollins, despite video showing Rollins taking blame for the injury coming to light after the fact. Sting said that he told Rollins that it was not the champ’s fault. Sting also noted in the interview that Rollins is the most talented competitor he’s ever faced in three decades in the business.
We don’t quite know what the future holds for Sting, particularly in terms of his future in WWE. Night of Champions could have been his last match, or there could be one last blaze of glory for The Icon. As for now, we can just be thankful that the latter is still a possibility after his injury.
